WDNA celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month and the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Note records label by revisiting this film that made its World Premiere in our 8th Miami Jazz Film Festival in 2003.
On February 22, 1985, record industry veterans Bruce Lundvall and Michael Cuscuna produced a remarkable, historic all-star reunion concert at New York City's town Hall. The list of musicians that turned out that night is simply astounding, with many of the pillars of Blue Note's early period taking the stage to perform classic Blue Note material, including Art Blakey, Kenny Burrell, Ron Carter, Lou Donaldson, Johnny Griffin, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Jackie McLean, Jimmy Smith, Stanley Turrentine, Cecil Taylor, McCoy Tyner and Tony Williams. Just to see Jimmy Smith is a thrill!
