(Miami) Beloved Cuban Priest, Msgr. Tómas Marín, Dies after Long Illness


Msgr. Tomas Marin

Msgr. Marin was a native of Cuba who grew up in Chicago and practiced medicine before entering the seminary. He was ordained May 13, 1989 and served until 1991 as parochial vicar at St. Agatha, Miami. After returning from higher studies in Washington, D.C., where he obtained a canon law degree, he was named archdiocesan chancellor in May 1993. He served as chancellor until June 2003. During that time, he also served as defender of the bond and later judge in the Metropolitan Tribunal. In September 2001, he was named administrator of the newly-created Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Doral, becoming pastor a year later. He was named Chaplain to His Holiness, with the title of monsignor, in October 2001. In June 2010, he was pastor of St. Timothy Church in Miami. He also served as chaplain for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Prior to his death, Msgr. Marin was serving as pastor of Saint Augustine Church in Coral Gables.
